According to Mehbooba people are entitled to find in urban settlements a sustainable and economically-viable living environment, which responsibility entirely rests on the shoulders of the state’s urban planners. H&UDD will have to pull up its socks so that we have better results to show to the people.  The Chief Minister made these remarks while reviewing the functioning of the Housing & Urban Development Department (H&UDD), at the Civil Secretariat. Besides the Draft Master Plans for Jammu and Srinagar, the projects reviewed by the Chief Minister today included Tawi Riverfront Development, Beautification of Maharaja Hari Palace, Multi-tier Parking in Jammu Bus Stand, Housing Colony at Muthi, setting up of IT Park and development of an Amusement Park by J&K Bank under CSR in Jammu city. She also noted with concern the persistent delay in finalization of Revised Master Plans for Jammu & Srinagar cities, lack of housing policy for EWS (Economically-Weaker Sections) as well removing bottlenecks in extending services notified under Public Services Guarantee Act (PSGA), which include building permissions and issuance of birth and death certificates.
On finalization of revised Master Plans for the two capital cities of Jammu Kashmir, the Chief Minister issued directions to engage a team of experts which would examines the Draft Plans and recommends improvements. She observed that state’s capital cities cannot afford delaying scientific garbage management anymore.
She was informed by the Commissioner/Secretary H&UDD that while Srinagar has one landfill site at Achan, the winter capital is yet to finalize a similar site for proper garbage disposal. JMC Commissioner, however, told the meeting that a site has been identified at Kot Bhawal for which required departmental procedures, including Environment Impact Assessment and transfer of land are currently in progress.   The Chief Minister was also briefed about the proposal to procure one segregator to be installed at Achan Landfill site at Srinagar, for which she gave Urban Development Secretary a deadline of 45 days to install the same.
Mehbooba Mufti said she will personally monitor the Dal Conservation Plan, development of Rakh-e-Arth Colony and the progress of the solid waste management projects, both in Jammu and Srinagar cities.  In a first step to micro-manage city cleanliness drives, Mehbooba Mufti directed the Urban Development Secretary to introduce an incentive scheme, which assesses the performance of the sweepers in their respective wards over a three-month period and rewards those which are the cleanest. The incentive scheme will be offered to sweepers manning 71 wards of JMC and 74 of SMC respectively.
Stressing upon restoration of urban spaces to its willful owners, the Chief Minister directed the Municipal Commissioners to launch anti-encroachment drives to free public places so that the city centres are de-congested. She also suggested identification of available spaces where vendors can be collectively accommodated so that they earn their livelihood with dignity, without hindering smooth traffic flow.
The Chief Minister also directed the Municipal Commissioners to interact with various shopkeeper associations so that public spaces are restored to the general public. “Special attention should also be given to creating green spaces by planting trees,” she said, while referring to the barren patches of land at several places in Jammu city.

Research of no use unless shared with farmers : Mehbooba

Urges young graduates to become trendsetters in agriculture entrepreneurship

Asking the universities to travel extra mile in navigating technologies from lab to land, Chief Minister of Jammu Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti, said the farmers will have to be taken onboard if agriculture sector has to reclaim its key position in the state’s economy. She said nature has been too kind in bestowing us with abundant water resources that can boost our agriculture production to the extent where we not only become self-sufficient but also export our produce to other parts of the country. According to Mehbooba Unlike other states which are grappling with droughts, farmer suicides and water shortages, we have been lucky in having ample water resources to harness our agriculture potential. The Chief Minister was addressing a large gathering of people during the 5th Convocation of the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology (SKUAST-J). Governor, N. N. Vohra, the Chancellor of the University, and Dr. Arvind Panagariya, Vice Chairman NITI Aayog, who was the Chief Guest, were also present on the occasion.
Calling upon the scientists to share their knowledge with the farmers, the Chief Minister, who is also the Pro-Chancellor of the university, said any research that doesn’t change lives and technology that doesn’t upgrade livelihoods of poor farmers is meaningless. She said her late father and former Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, used to untiringly remind scientists to come out of their cocoons and take their knowledge into the field. Mehbooba said, How scientists at SKUAST-J rise to the challenge of sustainable agriculture, organic farming and food security is something I would be keenly watching.
Highlighting the huge strides made by countries like New Zealand, Netherlands, Australia and US in agricultural entrepreneurship, the Pro-Chancellor urged the graduating students to take pride in their newly-acquired knowledge so that they become trendsetters of a new agricultural awakening. Even though agriculture and allied sectors continue to remain the mainstay of our economy, it is disappointing that we have not been able to sell this idea to our new generation.
Congratulating the students for attaining their degrees, the Chief Minister said she will back their endeavours in taking research in agriculture to the next higher level. She said she was extremely pleased to witness the excellent performance shown by the girls in the field of agriculture, which she said is crucial on many counts. I am proud of the three girls who won gold medals today for their distinguished performance.  Stating that agriculture determines performance of our economy, ensures food security and rural employment, the Chief Minister expressed serious concern over the trend of converting agricultural lands into non-agricultural purposes and wanton construction on highly-productive lands. She said no law or punishment can work unless we incentivize agriculture and inspire the farmer to cultivate land to earn a handsome income.

J&K meets Punjab : Two Royal Families engaged

April 10th marked a historical moment when two Royal families of Jammu Kashmir and Punjab engaged. Dr. Karan Singh's granddaughter and Yuvraj Vikramaditya Singh's daughter, Mriganka Singh was engaged to marry Nirvan Singh the grandson of Captain Amarinder Singh. The engagement ceremony took place at a private function at Dr. Karan Singh's New Delhi residence. The two families have known each other closely for four generations since pre-independence. This is seen as not just a coming together of erstwhile royal families but also as a union of the country's top political personalities and families. Dr. Karan Singh, son of the last ruler of Jammu & Kashmir late Maharaja Hari Singh is a senior Congress leader and Member of Parliament. Captain Amarinder Singh is the former Chief Minister of Punjab and scion of erstwhile Patiala State.
Twenty-seven-year-old Nirvan is the younger son of Captain Amarinder's daughter Jai Inder Kaur and Sardar Gurpal Singh. Twenty-five-year-old Mriganka is the daughter of Dr. Karan Singh's elder son Vikramaditya Singh and his wife Chitrangada Raje daughter of late Madhavrao Scindia of Gwalior and sister of Congress stalwart and Member of Parliament, Jyotiraditya Scindia. Vikramaditya is a People's Democratic Party (PDP) leader and member of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council.
It may be interesting to note that this is the second royal-political alliance in Captain Amarinder's family in one year. Last year, Angad Singh, another of his grandsons, had tied the knot with Aparajita Kumari, daughter of Himachal chief minister Virbhadra Singh.
In attendance at the royal engagement ceremony to bless the young couple were Chief Minister of Rajasthan Vasundhara Raje, Chief Minister of Himachal  Pradesh Virbhadra Singh amongst  a host of other prominent royalty, politicians, industrialists and media barons.

NIT : What is th fact ?

After so many incidents in NIT Srinagar for past few days, which hearts number of students, now one question is arising what was the real fact of dispute. Is that Cricket match of World cup T-20 or something behind the scene. There are conflicting versions of what happened at NIT over the past few days. But, every story leads to one trigger: competitive nationalism. The drama began when some local students celebrated India's loss in the T-20 world cup semi-final against West Indies. As a counter, students from outside Kashmir raised slogans supporting India. But, matters spilled out of the campus when some students wanted to take a protest march outside the campus on Tuesday, Tricolor in hand, Bharat Mata ki Jai on their lips. Students complain the Jammu and Kashmir police intervened at this point, stopped them from taking out their march, beat them up and snatched the flags from their hands.
Cops claim they tried to stop students from marching on the roads of Srinagar since it could have led to clashes between people outside the campus. They used force when the students became violent and misbehaved with a deputy Superintendent of Police at the spot. but the students blame on Police for supporting anti nationalist people, who threat students. There are number of protest of students in jammu. Some parties also engaged themselves in protest. Government is trying to cool the students and given assurance to parents of students studying in NIT.

J&K :  Ancient temple of Maa Bawewali lighted for navratra starting from 8th April.

J&K : Mehbooba's daughters are excited

At Raj bhawan of Jammu Kashmir, When Mehbooba Mufti was taking sworn in as first women chief minister of J&K, there was joy in her eyes imperative, but excitment of her two daughters was seen from long way. They came to Raj Bhawan to see her mother taking sworn in as Chief minister, where 3 months ago there grand dad Mufti Mohammed Sayeed took the Oath. Mehbooba's daughter Iritiqa Mufti describe the swearing-in of her mother as a historic moment for the state. She expects her mom to make everyone proud by fulfilling the promises made to the people. She said, the biggest challenge before her right now is the state of affairs as it exists and to improve things. She has also to fill the gap between two regions, which is always blamed for discrimination. Her sister Sana Mufti was also excited. She Said there is nothing new in a woman becoming a chief minister as we have seen Jayalalitha and Mayawati come to power before. Sanna added that the people of J&K have lot of expectations from Mufti and hoped that she still spends some time with them at home. But Sana don't wont to become politician like her mom. She said, “I do not think that I have to be in politics if I have to make a change. I can be a doctor and still help my society and all….and still help Kashmir so. Why be just part of politics you can be part of any profession and still can make a change.”

NIT Srinagar : Strong protest in Jammu in favour of Students

NIT Sringar : hand-painted flags raised on top of all the hostels.

In view of merciless torture of innocent students of NIT Srinagar by the JKP Police yesterday and following false and biased statements issued by the Police Officials, every student of the college has joined the peaceful protest including female students. TIRANGA was not returned to the students even after repeated requests. So, they painted large drawing sheets in Tricolors to re-flash the glory of the country that fills their hearts with infinite hope of help by their Hindustan.Various such hand-painted flags were raised on top of all the hostels. CRPF has joined in and pushed back JKP Police out of Campus and helped us raise our flag openly in the college. This was made possible with your support. Thankyou.
But the question still remains the same: How long will CRPF stay in college to provide us fair security. We cannot go outside for buying fruits, seeing doctors, etc. This might be more worst than prison.
Due to completely failed college administration and worsened security scenario, a common demand has been raised to shift the college to an environment, more safer in social and other important aspects, as soon as possible, so that students may resume their studies.
P.S: For those who still believe this is a protest against the locals or Kashmir, we confirm again, this is not! We are against the injustice done with the students by the College administration that supported anti-nationals, stone-pelters , lathi charge, tear gas and wrath by all means by not taking any action, issuing strict orders against the innocent students, issuing false statements to the media, preventing media access within the college premises, supporting anti- national slogans and provoking locals to shout slogans against the country. This harassment is unbearable both mentally and physically and we are continuing silent protest in all kinds of weathers (*raining here). ---- Student of NIT.
